
The Cardinals extended the contracts of general manager John Mozeliak and manager Mike Matheny, extending Mozeliak’s contract for three years and picking up the option on Matheny’s deal for 2014. It was announced Thursday in Jupiter, FL.

Mozeliak’s contract was set to expire at the end of the season. He was hired as the Cardinals’ GM in October 2007 after working in the organization’s baseball operations department for several years. Prior to that he worked in the Colorado Rockies organization. His new deal will run through the 2016 season. The Cardinals have advanced to the postseason in three of his five years.

The 42 year old Matheny led the Cardinals to an 88-74 record and a postseason berth in his first season. He was the youngest manager last season in MLB.
