In an interview with the Austin-American Statesman newspaper regarding the state of Texas athletics, DeLoss Dodds, the school’s athletic director, took a cheap shot at Missouri athletics. The Longhorn football, men’s basketball and baseball programs have taken a dip in performance and Dodds may be feeling the heat from UT fans.
By Texas standards, the football program is down, 22-16 over the last three seasons. The men’s basketball team may not make the NCAA for the first time in the last 15 seasons and last year’s baseball team, a perennial NCAA tournament team, missed the regionals. Dodds tried to reassure Texas fans with this rationale.
“Our bad years are not that bad. Take a school like Missouri. Our bad years are better than their good years. But we’ve created a standard.”
I guess he forgot at Mizzou’s 17-5 win over Texas in 2011 at Faurot Field?
Some in Longhorn country think it’ may be time for Dodds to move on.
