House bill would prevent teens from tanning without parental consent

February 13, 2013 By Jessica Machetta

A House Committee has taken up a bill that would require anyone under the age of 17 to have parental consent to use a tanning bed. The bill would require a parent to read about the medical risks of tanning and sign a waiver in person annually to permit use of tanning devices.

A similar bill was introduced last year by a legislator whose daughter was affected by skin cancer. It failed to make it through the legislative process and become law.
