Scherzer signs for one year with Detroit

February 5, 2013 By Bill Pollock

Former Missouri Tiger and Parkway Central star pitcher, Max Scherzer, has signed a one year deal with the Detroit Tigers worth $6.725 million, avoiding arbitration. Scherzer went 16-7 last season with a 3.74 ERA and struck out 231. During Detroit’s post season run, he was 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA.  Prior to pitching for the Tigers, Scherzer spent three seasons with Arizona, going 52-42.

Against the Royals, Scherzer is 6-4 in 13 starts with a 3.48 ERA, with 52 strikeouts in 72 innings.  Scherzer has started twice against the Cardinals and is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA.  The Chesterfield, MO. native was a first round draft pick by the D-Backs in 2006.
