The St. Louis Blues opened up practice on Sunday in front of 5,500 fans at Scottrade Center as the reception as been warm for players across the NHL as most teams started practicing. The Blues have one week to get ready for a maddening 48-game regular season that will see the Blues average 3.5 games from starting this Saturday and running all the way through the end of April.
The Blues will open the season against Central Division rival Detroit on Saturday at 7 p.m., and play seven of their first twelve games at home. The Blues also catch a break at the end of the season when they team plays seven of their final eight at home which could be a huge advantage as teams scramble down the stretch of the season for playoff positioning.
The Blues play the Red Wings four times in the first 13 games, with another home game against Detroit on Friday, Feb. 1. The Blues face the Stanley Cup Champion L.A. Kings, who eliminated the Blues in last year’s playoffs on Monday, Feb. 11 and again on Thursday, March 28.
The Blues will only play teams from the Western Conference and face division rival Chicago three times in St. Louis, twice in April.
