We know there will be an NHL season, starting on January 19 following the lockout, but you may not have known…there is still hockey being played in the Show Me State. The Missouri Mavericks, out of Independence, are currently in third place with half their regular season schedule still to play.  The Mavs are 18-11-4 with 33 games to go including a weekend home series against Tulsa Oilers and Quad City Mallards, the two last place teams in the Central Hockey League.

The CHL announced Missouri Mavericks’ goaltender Mike Clemente has been named Goaltender of the Week. He led the Mavs to three wins with a goals-against average of just 0.97 and a save percentage of .972 in the three wins.  In his rookie season, Clemente currently leads all goaltenders with 15 wins on the season.

I found this cool video posted by the team showing a time lapse of how a hockey rink is frozen and painted. It’s a process that takes 22 hours to complete.
