New Chiefs head coach Andy Reid sits down with Chairman Clark Hunt to answer questions from the media

Andy Reid was introduced by Chairman Clark Hunt this afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium as the new head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. Reid, who was fired by the Philadelphia Eagles after 14 seasons, said he never considered taking time off stating this, (head coaching), is what he does. Reid will now have the task of building a winning program that went 2-14 in 2012.

Reid admitted they would be starting from the bottom, but added there are a lot of good players on this roster. His job is build the team and find more good players. In terms of the quarterbacks, whether they are here now or have to come from the outside, Reid said he has to find “the next Len Dawson.”

Reid and a new general manager, when they are hired, will report directly to Hunt, something that has not happened in the past. Hunt says he will take a more active role in the day to day operations of the team.

Hunt said interviews are lined up for the next general manager and Reid made mention on a couple of different occasions during the question and answer session with the media,  that Hunt will have the final decision on who is hired as the GM.

There was speculation that it was Reid who had Scott Pioli fired, so that Reid could pick who he wanted as GM, but Reid says he and Pioli are friends and that decision to make a change happened before he was hired. Hunt said Pioli joined the interview process because he was the GM at the time.
