Rams’ Jackson joins elite group of NFL backs

December 31, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Rams running back Steven Jackson Jackson, who entered Sunday’s game at Seattle just ten yards shy of the 1,000 mark, reached a milestone with a 14-yard run in the second quarter. Jackson went over a grand on the ground for the eighth consecutive season, a mark that has only been reached by five other backs in the history of the NFL.

Jackson joins Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Thurman Thomas, Curtis Martin and LaDainian Tomlinson. Tomlinson will become a Hall of Famer when he’s eligible, but the other four are enshrined. Jackson will also reach Canton one day.

“It means a lot,” Jackson said. “That group I joined today, I am thankful to all those guys, really appreciate what they’ve done for the position and I try to carry the torch and be a franchise running back.”
