The Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns meet in an AFC matchup on Sunday, Dec. 9 with a 12 p.m. CT kickoff at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Chiefs hit the road for the first time since visiting Pittsburgh on Nov. 12.
Kansas City closed out a three-game home stretch with an emotional 27- 21 win vs. the Carolina Panthers at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs enter Sunday’s game with a 2-10 record while the Browns sit at 4-8.
Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark with his fi fth 100-yard game of the season this past Sunday against the Panthers. He recorded 127 yards on 27 rushes (4.7 avg.). Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn completed a single-game franchise-record 82.6% of his passes connecting on 19 of 23 pass attempts for 201 yards and two touchdowns. Kansas City tight end Tony Moeaki was on the receiving end of one Quinn TD pass along with wide receiver Jon Baldwin. The Chiefs offense orchestrated its longest drive of the season, a 17-play, 87-yard drive that ate 9:56 off of the game clock in the third quarter of play.
On the defensive side of the ball, rookie defensive back Tysyn Hartman led the team in tackles with six solo. Kansas City’s defense was able to put pressure on Carolina quarterback Cam Newton, sacking him twice, once by defensive end Tyson Jackson and the other by linebacker Justin Houston. Houston now has 10.0 sacks this season. The Chiefs played discipline football, committing only one penalty and allowing zero turnovers.
Cleveland enters Sunday’s contest after a 20-17 victory over the Oakland Raiders at O.co Coliseum last Sunday. Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden completed 25 passes on 36 attempts for 364 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Wide receiver Josh Gordon caught six passes for 116 yards including a 44-yard TD strike in the second quarter of play. Running back Trent Richardson added a three-yard TD run after a 14-play, 94-yard drive. On the defensive side of the ball, defensive back Tashaun Gipson led the club with eight tackles vs. Oakland and defensive lineman Juqua Parker recorded 1.0 sack.
This weekend’s game will mark the 12th regular season meeting between the two clubs in Cleveland and the 23rd meeting overall. This will be Chiefs Head Coach Romeo Crennel’s first trip back to Cleveland as a head coach since coaching for the Browns from 2005-08. Following Sunday’s contest in Cleveland, the Chiefs travel to Oakland to take on the Raiders at O.co Coliseum on Dec. 16. Cleveland will face Washington at home on Dec. 16.
