The rest of the year will be highlighted by holiday parties. The Coalition for Roadway Safety wants people to remember to be sober going to and coming home from them.

Images like this one will be put in restaurants and bars in the state as part of the Coalition for Roadway Safety’s campaign discouraging driving under the influence.

The Coalition has launched a campaign to discourage driving under the influence during the holidays.

Customer Relations Specialist Kelly Martin says it lasts all December, “because of all the holiday parties that people have between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. Last year in the month of December there were 67 people killed and 456 seriously injured in Missouri traffic crashes. Seventeen of those fatalities involved an impaired driver. So we know that the impaired drivers are out there, more so this time of year, and it’s very important to heed the warnings to drive sober or get pulled over.”

The campaign encourages Missourians not to drive if they are “tipsy, buzzed or blitzen,” a reference to Santa’s reindeer “Blitzen,” and features images of three animated reindeer. It emphasizes not driving for people who have had any alcohol to drink at all, even though many people think they know their “limit,” or a number of drinks before which they still feel they are safe to drive.

The reindeer will appear on posters in restrooms, on mirrors and drink coasters and in a television commercial.
