Hostess closing its doors, could cost hundreds of Missouri jobs

November 16, 2012 By Jessica Machetta

Snack cakes that helped raise millions of Generation X’ers will soon be gone — Twinkies, Ho-Hos and Ding Dongs.

The closing of Hostess could also mean the loss of more than 300 jobs in St. Louis and a hundred in Booneville.

Hostess is closing its plants and letting go some 18-thousand workers as it moves toward liquidation following a strike.

Company CEO Gregory Rayburn said in the statement that Hostess does not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike.

While some brands could find buyers for products like Twinkies, which were first produced during World War Two for soldiers … it looks like Gen Xers raised on Hostess snacks are losing an icon.
