Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder has become the first lieutenant governor to be elected to a third term since Frank Gaines Harris in 1940.

Kinder beat former State Auditor Susan Montee 1,316,655-1,211,352 to become the only Republican to win statewide office  in yesterday’s election.

Democrats retained the U. S. Senate seat, the governorship, secretary of state, state treasurer, and attorney general’s offices.

Kinder says it is too early to talk about whether he will run for the vacant governorship in 2016.
