Mizzou tops Kentucky at SEC soccer championships

November 1, 2012 By Bill Pollock

5th seeded Missouri scored two first-half goals and held off 4th seeded Kentucky for a 2-1 win on Wednesday in the Southeastern Conference Tournament quarterfinals at the Orange Beach SportsPlex in Alabama.  Missouri scored a pair of goals in less than a two-minute span to go ahead 2-0 in the first half. Haley Krentz scored in the 26th minute and Alyssa Diggs followed in the 28th minute off a cross from Krentz. In the 73rd minute, Kentucky got a goal by Caitlin Landis to narrow the Wildcats’ deficit to 2-1.

“We’re feeling great to beat Kentucky,” Missouri head coach Bryan Blitz said. “It’s a monumental event and we played a really great first half and they played a great first half and we feel great to move on.”

Missouri (14-6) advances to play top-seeded Florida in Friday’s second semifinal. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT at the Orange Beach SportsPlex.
