Woman sues store that sold her laxative-laced soda

October 18, 2012 By Mike Lear

A Kansas City woman is suing Family Dollar and two employees at one of its stores in Kansas City, saying an apparent attempt at a practical joke made her sick.

A soda that had been laced with 25 laxative tablets was placed in a cooler where Barbara Nelson bought it and drank part of it. She was taken to a hospital for treatment and says she suffered “violent consequences” and “severe mental and physical injuries,” and says prior medical conditions were made worse by the incident. She is seeking more than 25,000 dollars in damages.

Both employees were arrested but no criminal charges have been filed.
