The State Board of Education will consider provisional accreditation of the St. Louis Public Schools today.

The District was stripped of accreditation in 2007 and a special administrative board was given control. Since then it has balanced its budget, gradually improved academics and has improved the consistency of leadership.

Provisional accreditation would not give the District back to an elected school board, but would be seen as bolstering its leaders efforts to restore it.

The State Board meets today in Jefferson City.
