St. Louis hailstorms in April 2nd costliest in U.S. history

October 12, 2012 By Mike Lear

A series of hailstorms that hit the St. Louis area in April have been ranked among the costliest in U.S. history. A company that tracks insured property losses places the cost for those storms at about 1.6 billion dollars from around 245,500 claims.

The Weather Service says that would make it the second most costly hailstorm in the nation’s history. The costliest also hit the St. Louis area in April, 2001.
