Chiefs and football Cardinals well represented on HOF ballot

September 28, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Priest Holmes, eligible for the Hall of Fame

The Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals football team are well represented on the list of players nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2013. Former Chiefs guard Will Shields, a finalist in his first year of eligibility last year, is on the list again, along with former running back Priest Holmes, kicker Nick Lowery and cornerback Albert Lewis.

Former Head Coaches Marty Schottenheimer and Dick Vermeil, who led the Rams to a Super Bowl and later coached in KC appear on the ballot. Before moving onto San Diego, Don “Air” Coryell, who coached in St. Louis from 73-77, is also on the ballot. Cardinal quarterback QB Neil Lomax and running back Ottis Anderson are eligible.

Complete list of Hall of Fame nominees

From that list the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee will choose 25 candidates who will advance as semifinalist nominees. That semifinalist list will be further reduced by a mail ballot to 15 modern-era finalists. The Class of 2013 will be selected from the list of the 15 modern-era finalists plus the two senior nominees, Curley Culp and Dave Robinson, who were selected last month by the Hall of Fame’s Senior Selection Committee.

The actual voting for the Class of 2013 will be conducted at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee’s annual meeting, which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 the day before Super Bowl XLVII at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La. The election results will be announced at a live announcement show immediately following the meeting.
