Mountain lion spotted in Shannon County

September 21, 2012 By Jessica Machetta

Another mountain lion has been spotted in Southwest Missouri’s Eminence.

Jim Smith, who runs a large trail-riding business in Shannon County, says he remembers when bear sightings were rare in that part of Missouri. Now they are commonplace. Smith says he now wonders if mountain lion sightings will also become common.

The Department of Conservation has confirmed 32 of the hundreds of mountain lion reports over the past 18 years.

Smith says the animal’s size was impressive, but the big cat was not threatening. He says if you leave them alone, they usually run away.
