MoDOT worker killed while working accident on I-70

September 21, 2012 By Jessica Machetta

A Department of Transportation worker was killed this morning while working on a vehicle in Independence.

Motorist assist operator Clifton Scott was helping authorities shut down traffic along Interstate 70 following a four-vehicle accident that happened 1:40 this morning.

A car traveling east on I-70 struck Scott while he was outside his vehicle setting up traffic barriers to divert traffic from the first accident. The car then struck the motor-assist truck, causing it to burst into flames.

Scott was pronounced dead at the scene.
