The Food and Drug Administration says consumers should not stop eating rice in spite of some consumer groups saying it could contain arsenic.

Consumer Reports says rice grown in several states, including Missouri, contain allowable levels of arsenic.

The FDA plans to study the issue and consider possible new standards, but says there is no evidence to suggest rice is unsafe to eat.

Organic arsenic is naturally present in water, air, food and soil … which the FDA says is harmless. However, how much inorganic arsenic found in some pesticides and insecticides can be toxic … it’s not known how much inorganic arsenic might be present in rice and rice products.
