Trooper statement causes mistrial in Jefferson City DWI deaths case

September 11, 2012 By Jessica Machetta

A mistrial has been declared in the Jefferson City trial of a man charged with two deaths in a drunk driving incident.
The judge has called things to a halt after a Highway Patrolman testified defending Damien Bryan had two previous DWI convictions. Such testimony is not allowed unless the person charged brings it up during a trial.
Bryan had been indicted after he pulled out of a side road and hit a passing car on the highway, causing it to overturn in front of another car. The drivers of both cars died.
