24 year old Kent Gerst, who attended Fort Zumwalt West High School and was a 2006 draft pick by the Chicago White Sox, was killed in an accident near his house in St. Charles County.

Gerst was reported missing Sunday afternoon near Peruque Creek. Local authorities searched the area and found Gerst’s body in the creek. An official cause of death has not been released by the medical examiner, but initial reports suggest Gerst fell from a bluff.

Gerst, an O’Fallon resident, played semi-pro ball for the Gateway Grizzlies. According to a team representative, Gerst played for the team in 2011.
