Adam Wainwright gave up five runs in five innings and the Cardinals couldn’t really figure out knuckleballer R.A. Dickey as the Cardinals were unable to sweep the Mets losing 6-2 Wednesday afternoon at Busch Stadium.
Dickey picks up his 18th win of the season and the only real damage came from Wainwright who homered off Dickey, leading off the third inning, to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Mets added three more runs in the fifth, thanks in part to Ike Davis’ two run shot off Wainwright.
Jon Jay and Daniel Descalso each had two hits. Highly touted prospect Shelby Miller made his major league debut. He pitched two innings, gave up one hit and struck out four.
