Isaac storms in Missouri not expected to affect air travel

August 29, 2012 By Jessica Machetta

With any luck, we’ll get a good rain Friday and Saturday from Hurricane Isaac, according to a flight coordinator with the National Weather in Kansas City. with the heaviest rain being on the eastern side of Missouri.

Matt Strahan, Chief meteorologist at the International Operations Aviation Weather Center, says neither major airport in Missouri — Kansas City and St. Louis — gets enough traffic that rain can cause backlogs. Layovers in Memphis and Atlanta are also not expected to be a problem.

However, Strahan says, “As the system drifts towards the Northeast U.S. next week, travelers can expect it to have an impact on the air space because of delays in New York City, although it’s still too early to forecast how bad and when they will be.”
