Mizzou’s first practice in full pads–SEC Quick Hits for 8/6 (AUDIO)

August 6, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Mizzou’s first practice in full pads took place earlier today.  Tuesday is the team’s first two-a-day workout.

Quick notes:  OL Travis Ruth has a bicep issue, DL Brad Madison has a rib injury.  Head Coach Gary Pinkel didn’t know the extent of the injuries.   Mizzou OL Chris Freeman has left the program.  He was the tallest player at 6’8, and heaviest at 320 lbs, but was passed on the depth chart by RSFr. Taylor Chappel and So. Anthony Gatti.  AUDIO Gary Pinkel’s post practice comments (5:00)

It’s kind of ironic a guy with the last name of Wing, would have the best foot in the SEC and help his team when it comes to field position.  I’m not sure this is such an important stat, consider three of top four teams in the conference last year were near the bottom in net punting, but LSU’s Brad Wing is easily head and shoulders above the rest.  Missouri would have ranked 9th last season in net punt yards.

Ole Miss DB Charles Sawyer out 4-6 weeks with torn quad. One of the better players on a bad team. Tweeted by @davidbryantAP.

–Muschamp complements players on their good retention from spring. Far ahead mentally at this point from where he thought they would be.
–Differences in offense this year will be motions and shifts. More inside running game because of bigger backs.
