Cards bullpen falters, team loses ground in NL Central

August 3, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Colorado rookie Josh Rutledge homered in his fourth straight game and Tyler Colvin hit a tiebreaking double as part of a three-run seventh inning that gave the Rockies an 8-2 win over the Cardinals 8-2 Thursday night.  Wilin Rosario hit his first pinch-hit homer, a two-run shot off reliever Brian Fuentes in the eighth, and Jordan Pacheco went 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs to help the Rockies snap a five-game losing streak. It was their first win in their last eight games at Coors Field.

Jon Jay tripled in a run and Carlos Beltran doubled in the Cardinals second run of the sixth inning that gave the Redbirds a short lived 2-1 lead.  Cincinnati swept San Diego, pushing the Cardinals to eight games back in the division.  St. Louis trails Pittsburgh by 4.5 games and Atlanta by four in the wild card.
