July 28, 2012 By Mike Lear

A Holt man has been found guilty of first degree murder in the fatal shooting of a woman in 2009.

James Reardon was convicted for his role in the killing of Carol Thomas, who was kidnapped in Excelsior Springs and whose body was found in rural Ray County. He was also convicted of armed criminal action and knowingly burning the vehicle used in the kidnapping, found near Lawson.

The other defendant in her murder, Erik Zimmerman of Holt, has pleaded guilty to second degree murder and will be sentenced next week.
