Electrocutions at Lake of the Ozarks lead to warning from Highway Patrol

July 25, 2012 By Jessica Machetta

The Highway Patrol is urging boat dock owners to take the necessary precautions to make their docks safe from stray electrical currents.

Recent incidents — including the deaths of two children and a 26-year-old woman — all at Lake of the Ozarks, have brought attention to the danger. Since then, two more incidents at the Lake have been reported, one of which almost killed another child.

The Patrol says swimming away from any dock suspected to be charged with electricity is the safest course of action. Exiting the water at the shoreline a safe distance away is another alternative.
