Doe Run Company hits town a double blow

July 7, 2012 By admin

The Doe Run lead company has dealt the city of Herculaneum a double blow. Doe Run has decided not to build a new lead smelter in Herculaneum. And it’s going to close the smelter there and put almost 280 people out of jobs next year. Doe Run says the $100-million price tag on the new smelter is too much of a financial risk. Doe Run’s plant has been processing lead there for almost 125 years.
