Congressman Todd Akin issued the following response to the Supreme Court decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act:

“This is a crushing blow to freedom and an absolute insult to the dignity of all Americans.  I am deeply disappointed in the Supreme Court for giving the government the authority to force citizens to buy a product.  I believe this encroachment of government is unconstitutional and offensive.  It puts the life and death health decisions of our families and loved ones in the hands of Washington Bureaucrats.  We don’t want the compassion of the IRS or the efficiency of the DMV in our healthcare system.

“In 2010, Obama and his cronies Reid, Pelosi, and McCaskill told us that ‘we just didn’t know what’s best.’  The American people responded that they don’t want socialized medicine!  Now it’s time to replace Claire McCaskill, one of the people that perpetrated this nightmare on our economy.

“Since day one, I have fought against Obama’s horrendous healthcare bill.  I voted against it and since then I have worked feverishly to defund and destroy it.  I do not believe that there is anything compassionate about forcing people into dependence on the government – and that’s what this bill does.

“Conservatives have a long fight ahead this year.  It is absolutely vital – we must take back the Senate and we must take back the White House.  The President cannot be allowed a second term or more Court appointments.   Now we must work tirelessly to continue defunding and destroying the monster that is Obamacare.”
