The American Civil Liberties Union says Jasper County’s ban on newspapers in the county jail is unconstitutional. But a jail official has told the Joplin Globe that the ban has been imposed to prevent fights caused by newspaper articles, and because jail administrators don’t want inmates to be reading about problems with the jail and plans for improvements.
A lawyer for the sheriff says the policy will be reviewed.
