Royals catcher Brayan Pena singled in the tying run and as he rounded first base, Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Edwin Maysonet cut off the throw from left field, and wrongly threw to second base. An alert and speedy Jarrod Dyson took off for home to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Royals a 4-3 victory and their first three-game sweep at home.

Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez hit solo home runs for the Brewers and Eric Hosmer hit a two run shot for the Royals. With the score tied at two, pinch hitter Cody Ransom singled to left in the eighth, giving Milwaukee a 3-2 lead.

The run put former Missouri State pitcher Shaun Marcum in line to pick up his fourth straight win, until closer John Axford blew a save chance for the second night in a row.

The Royals comeback started when Mitch Maier reached first base while striking out on a wild pitch. Axford rallied to retire Mike Moustakas and Alcides Escobar, but Dyson drew a walk and Pena came in to pinch hit for Humberto Quintero to start the wild ending with his single to left.
