Royals allow Pittsburgh to sweep interleague series

June 11, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Royals lefty Bruce Chen had won five of his last six starts, but Andrew McCuthcheon’s home run and three RBIs paced the Pirates to a 3-2 win over the Royals. This is the first time since 2001, that Pittsburgh has swept an interleague series. Royals have lost four in a row and six of eight.

A.J. Burnett held the Royals in check, going 7.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out five. Alex Gordon and Alcides Escobar each had two hits. Escobar picked up his 14th RBI, Eric Hosmer his 30th.

Interleague play continues on Tuesday when Milwaukee is at Kauffman Stadium.
