The Ripley County prosecutor says the county can’t afford him … so he’s quit.

Prosecutor Monte Phillips says the county is not giving his office enough money to fulfill his duties. He’s leaving a week from today.

Phillips was elected in 2010. The presiding commissioner tells the Cape Girardeau Southeast Missourian that Phillips’ budget is the biggest it’s ever been. And he says Phillips didn’t spend all the money he was given last year.
