Jackson County is paying a woman more than $400,000 to settle a lawsuit she filed after being sexually abused by a sheriff’s deputy. The woman was 15 years old in 2007 when she was forced to perform a sex act on deputy Steve Burgess. Burgess is serving a 14-year federal prison sentence. A civil lawsuit remains in force against him.
