South Callaway holds on for Class 2 baseball title

June 1, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Smith Kemper and Hunter Leeper combined on a four-hitter to lead the South Callaway Bulldogs to the Class 2 baseball title by holding off Valle Catholic 4-3, Thursday afternoon at Meador Park in Springfield.

Kemper pitched six innings and allowed four hits and two walks and was charged with two earned runs. Kemper also had three of South Callaway’s nine hits. His double in the fourth inning brought in the Bulldogs’ first run of the game.

Down 4-1 in the sixth, Valle rallied after the first two batters were retired to push across two runs thanks to a single and hit batter with the bases loaded. Leeper closed out the seventh for the save and the championship for South Callaway.
