KC sells vacant school buildings to developer

May 24, 2012 By Jessica Machetta

The Kansas City school district has sold four of its 23 vacant school buildings. A development company plans to turn them into rental units. The gymnasiums, libraries, and auditoriums will become places for community services in some schools. Another developer hopes to turn his building into a grocery store. A third developer wants to transform his school into residential spaces on the upper floors and a health clinic downstairs.

The district is soliciting offers on six other buildings.
