Quick start as Royals roll Rangers

May 16, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Billy Butler and Brayan Pena each drove in a pair of runs as the Royals scored four runs in the first and tacked on more in the next two innings to lead to their second straight win over the Rangers, 7-4 on Tuesday night.

The Royals have now won five of six games and pulled off a rare two-game sweep of the Rangers, the club’s first since 1977.

Vin Mazzaro was making his first start of the year for the Royals, taking the place of injured Danny Duffy, and gave up three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in five innings.

The Royals took advantage of gifts from Rangers starter Colby Lewis. Two throwing errors led to five unearned runs in the first two innings. Mike Moustakas reached base for the 22nd straight game by homering in the third.

Royals Reliever Tim Collins struck out five of the six batters he faced in the sixth and seventh innings for the Royals.
