Temporary barriers at Birds Point Levee come down

May 11, 2012 By Mary Furness

The Corps of Engineer is removing temporary barriers on two miles of the Birds Point levee in southeast Missouri. That clears the way for the Corps to widen and raise the levee to 55 feet. The Corps hopes that work can be done this fall and that the full levee can be back up to its pre-flood level, six feet higher, sometime this winter.

The Corps says chances are small for flooding that would overtop the levee this year.
