Greene and Craig help Cards avoid sweep

May 7, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Tyler Greene got the start at second base and did the most damage from the eighth spot in the batting order as he drove in a career high four runs and the Cardinals avoid being swept at Houston winning 8-1.

Greene went 3-for-3 with a walk. He hit two homers a double and drove in a career-high four runs, scored three runs and stole a base. Not to be overshadowed is first baseman Allen Craig. He homered and doubled in his first two at-bats, driving in three runs. Since returning from the 15-day DL on May 1, Craig has recorded at least one RBI in each of his four games, seven over that span.

Adam Wainwright improved to 2-3 on the year. He went seven innings and allowed just the one run while giving up seven hits and striking out seven. This was Wainwright’s second of his last three starts in which he only allowed one earn run.
