A St. Louis County circuit court has ruled that the Clayton School District does not have to accept students from the unaccredited St. Louis Public schools. Parents of St. Louis District students who wanted to send their children to the Clayton District filed the suit. State law requires nearby districts accept students from unaccredited districts, with the sending school picking up the tab for tuition, but the law does not include anything about state funding. The St. Louis District says it would be bankrupt if thousands of its students left. The Clayton district says its enrollment would more than double if St. Louis students were allowed to attend.
State lawmakers expect the ruling to be appealed.
