Mizzou pitcher named player of the week

May 1, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Mizzou sophomore Rob Zastryzny has been named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after his complete game shutout of Texas Tech last Friday night. Zastryzny is the third Tiger to win the Big 12 Weekly honor and is the first Tiger pitcher to win since May 18, 2010, when Nick Tepesch won the honor.

Zastryzny had a career-best outing at Texas Tech last Friday in which he shut out the Red Raiders in 9.0 IP. He allowed just seven hits and two walks while striking out five and got through the nine innings on just 112 pitches. He is the first Tiger to throw a complete game shutout in Big 12 play since 2009 when Kyle Gibson did so against Kansas State.

The Tigers face another SEC opponent Tuesday and Wednesday when they travel to Arkansas to play the Razorbacks.
