Burnett blanks Cardinals

April 21, 2012 By Bill Pollock

The St. Louis Cardinals were held to five hits on the entire night as Pirates starter A.J. Burnett threw seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out seven, as the Cardinals lose 2-0 in Pittsburgh.

The Cardinals threatened in the ninth after Pirates closer Joel Hanrahan walked the first two batters. He then struck out Carlos Beltran and Erik Komatsu before getting a ground out to end the game.

Jake Westbrook suffered his first lost of the year, allowing both runs over 6.2 innings while giving up seven hits and two walk to go along with six strikeouts.
