Blues edge Sharks for commanding series lead

April 20, 2012 By Bill Pollock

B.J. Crombeen and Andy McDonald scored for the Blues as they beat the San Jose Sharks 2-1 to take a 3-1 lead in their Western Conference Quarterfinal series. The series shift back to St. Louis, where the Blues can win their first playoff series since 2002.

Brian Elliot made 24 saves and lost his shutout bid on the final shot he faced on the night when captain Joe Thornton ripped a shot past Elliott, with 1:07 left to play. The Sharks never threatened after that.

The power play continues to tear it up for the Blues. Crombeen scored his first career playoff goal just 7:12 into the game, putting St. Louis up 1-0. McDonald scored on the power play 12 minutes into the third period. With that goal, that made the Blues 6 for 16 with the man advantage in this series.
