Adam Wainwright gave up four runs in five innings as the Cardinals were unable to complete the sweep of the Reds losing 6-3 Thursday afternoon. Wainwright’s ERA in three starts is 9.88 and fell to 0-3.  Wainwright limited the Reds to two hits in the first three innings and struck out Joey Votto to start the fourth, but Brandon Phillips homered, Jay Bruce singled and Ryan Ludwick followed with a homer to give the Reds a 3-0 lead. The lead increased to 4-0 in the fifth.

The Cardinals put a dent into the lead and made it a one run game when Matt Holliday hit a three run homer. The Reds lead went to 5-3 when Victor Marte gave up a solo shot to Bruce. The Reds added another run in the ninth off Fernando Salas.  Bronson Arroyo picked up his first win of the year going eight innings and Sean Marshall pitched the ninth for a save.
