Jonathan Broxton hit Oakland’s Johnny Gomes on the first pitch he threw with the bases loaded in the 12th inning forcing Jemile Weeks home for the winning run in the A’s 5-4 victory over the Royals on Wednesday. Just before that, Broxton popped new A’s cleanup hitter Yoenis Cespedes on the first pitch to load the bases.   It was the first time in 46 years that a game ended with two straight batters being hit with pitches.

Alex Gordon hit a tying home run off Brian Fuentes in the seventh. Billy Butler, who homered earlier in the game, put the Royals on top in the 12th. After Eric Hosmer singled with two outs, Butler doubled down the left field line.

The Royals finish the road trip 3-3 and will be home Friday to host the Cleveland Indians.
