A’s pitcher shuts down Royals

April 10, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Oakland starting pitcher Tommy Milone allowed three hits and three walks over a career-high eight innings in his first start with his new team, and the A’s beat the Royals 1-0 on Monday night. Milone pitched with Washington last year.  Luis Mendoza worked hard through 5.2 innings allowing five hits and four walks. He gave up the lone run of the game in the second on an RBI single from Josh Donaldson. Mendoza went 4-0 with a 0.47 ERA during spring training.

Royals manager Ned Yost sat regulars Mike Moustakas and Alex Gordon after Moustakas went 1 for 11 and Gordon 0 for 13 in KC’s three game series to open the year at Los Angeles. Yost said both would be back in the lineup Tuesday night.
