More Missourians want to be elected to something this year than ran four years ago and eight years ago. A totalof 574 candidates have registered before the end of filing. Four years ago there were 487 candidates for statewide, congressional, and legislative offices. In 2004, there were 555 candidates. One democratic candidate for Governor withdrew on the last day, meaning that race remains open for filing through Friday. Governor Nixon is the only democrat running.
