Man sentenced, banned from planes after failed suicide-attempt.

March 28, 2012 By admin

The man who tried to open the door of a Continental Airliner in mid-flight last year has been sentenced to ten months in a federal prison. Other passengers wrestled Reynel Alcaide away from the door. The plane made an emergency landing in St. Louis. Nobody was hurt. Alcaide has told authorities he was hoping to commit suicide. The federal judge in St. Louis has told Alcaide he must pay the airline $7,000 for its costs, get mental health treatment and stay off of airplanes for three years after he’s released.
