Blues set franchise record for shutouts

March 26, 2012 By Bill Pollock

Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk assisted on three goals and goaltender Brian Elliott picked up his eighth shutout of the season as the Blues moved back on top of the NHL standings with a 4-0 win over Phoenix.  For the All-Star goalie Elliott, he picked up his second shutout in a row and tied New York’s Henrik Lundqvist and Los Angeles’ Jonathan Quick, for the NHL lead. Elliott’s eight shutouts, however, have come in just 33 starts, as opposed to 63 for Quick and 58 for Lundqvist.

David Backes and Alex Pietrangelo each scored second-period power-play goals Sunday and Patrik Berglund and Ryan Reaves added third period.
